In response to the continuous seismic activities in the Aegean Sea, particularly around the island of Santorini, Turkey is taking new measures. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) in Aydın has implemented an emergency announcement system along the coast of Didim Altınkum. This system is part of a wider effort to deploy mobile siren systems across Izmir, Aydın, and Muğla, with one of the key coastal districts in Aydın, Didim Altınkum, now equipped. The announcement system, set up in an open area by the seaside on Yalı Street, will particularly serve to warn the local population in the event of tsunamis and other emergencies.

The announced systems are currently intended for warning purposes only. Serdar Kırbaş, head of the Disaster Search Rescue Training and Assistance Association (AFAR) Didim branch, highlighted the continuous volcanic activity in the Aegean Sea. He mentioned that experts foresee the possibility of a magnitude 6 earthquake due to the accumulation of seismic energy, which could potentially trigger a tsunami. However, due to the shallow sea and intervening islands, a major impact isn't expected. Nevertheless, these sound broadcasting devices have been installed by AFAD to raise public awareness, issue warnings, and prevent potential casualties. The duration these devices will remain in Didim is uncertain and will be determined by state authorities, according to Kırbaş, who added that the system might remain operational as long as the active seismicity continues.

Commitment to Community Support Continues
AFAR Didim branch member İlknur Macit expressed their voluntary commitment to assisting the local populace, stating, "We try to support the people as much as we know. There is some anxiety among the population, but with AFAD's guidance, there is reassurance against possible risks. There is no definite prediction of a tsunami or earthquake, but it is prudent to be prepared for the possibility. AFAD continues its efforts in this direction, and we stand by them."

First-Time Sightings of Warning Devices by Locals
A resident of the district shared their first encounter with this kind of device in Didim, mentioning that similar installations are planned across many locations in the Aegean region. The officials provide full information on necessary precautions, and anyone feeling anxious or seeking more information can visit this site to learn what actions to take.
