Aydin, one of the significant cities of Turkey, known as the cradle of democracy, has become a preferred place by foreigners in recent years. However, according to the data of the Aydin Provincial Immigration Administration, there has been a 15 percent decrease in the number of foreigners obtaining residence permits in the last two years.

Aydin is a city that adorns the dreams of many people to move to the Aegean, which the historian Herodotus described as "the most beautiful land under the sky". At the same time, it is a city where foreigners from 118 different countries, including those under temporary protection, and irregular and regular immigrants live.

According to the data as of December 31, 2022, the number of foreigners with residence permits in Aydin was 11,234, and this number dropped to 9,518 by December 26, 2024. This situation indicates a decrease of approximately 15 percent in the number of foreigners obtaining residence permits within a year.

During this period, a total of 1,716 foreign nationals withdrew their residence from Aydin. On the other hand, according to the data of December 26, 2024, a total of 1,056,582 foreign nationals continue their life by obtaining a residence permit throughout Turkey.

Especially the number of citizens from Syria, who are under temporary protection status, reached 8,212 in Aydin as of December 26, 2024. Considering that the population of Aydin is thought to be 1,161,702, the proportion of Syrians in the population became 0.70 percent.

These data show that Aydin is still an attractive place for foreign nationals, but the interest in this area has decreased in recent years. Various factors are thought to be effective in this decrease. However, it is stated that this situation will not reduce the charm of Aydin and foreign nationals will still prefer this beautiful Aegean city.
